ERSTES FOTOSHOOTING / FIRST PHOTOSHOOTING

Gestern haben wir ein paar tolle Fotos von Tyler und uns gemacht, die wir gern mit Euch teilen moechten. Tyler ist einfach ein Sonnenschein und wir sind sehr sehr gluecklich. Er hat schon gut zugenommen und macht uns nur Freude. Er schlaeft sehr viel und hat schon seinen eigenen kleinen Rhythmus gefunden. Am Abend "wartet" er ganz brav auf Papa und freut sich immer ueber Zeit mit ihm und tagsueber ist er lieb zu mir.

We took some awesome pictures of Tyler and us yesterday, which we like to share with you. Tyler is our little sunshine and we are very very happy. He is gaining some weight already and is awesome. He sleeps a lot and found his own little rhythm already. In the evening he patiently "waits" for daddy to come home and is happy about time with him. And during the day he is being a good boy for me.

Ich hab die ganze Zeit ueberlegt, ob Tyler's kleine Stupsnase von Robert oder mir ist. Dann hat Papa diese Frage beantwortet und mir ein Foto geschickt, auf dem ich ein Baby war. Nun sind wohl keine Fragen mehr offen ;-)

I was wondering, if Tyler's cute little nose is from Robert or myself until my dad send me a picture, showing myself as a baby. Well I guess question answered ;-)

Sicherlich warten schon viele von Euch sehnsuechtig auf ein Update von uns und nun habe ich Zeit und werde Euch gern berichten. Nach langen 9 Monaten, und einem last minute Umzug nach Samui, hat unser kleiner Sonnenschein nun am 10. April 2013 um 10.28 Uhr das Licht der Welt erblickt. Er war 49cm gross, 2,700gr leicht und hat unsere Herzen von der ersten Sekunde erobert. Wir waren insgesamt 4 Tage im Krankenhaus und durften am Samstag endlich nach Hause. Alles war fuer den Kleinen vorbereitet und schon nach dem ersten Tag war uns klar, dass er sich wohlfuehlt. Er schreit kaum, nur wenn es nicht schnell genug etwas zu Essen gibt ;-) und schlaeft danach mindestens 3, manchmal aber auch schon 5 Stunden durch. Wir sind jetzt schon super stolz auf ihn und ich will Euch auch gar nicht lang warten lassen, sondern lade schnell ein paar Fotos vom Geburtstag bis heute in eine Slideshow.

I am sure some of you are eager to hear from us with an update and now I have time to do so. After long 9 month, and a last minute move to Samui, did our little sunshine arrive into the world on 10th April 2013 at 10.28am. He was 49cm and 2,700gr and he captured our hearts from the first second we saw him. We had to stay in the hospital for 4 days and finally were allowed to go home on Saturday. Everything was prepared for his arrival and we could feel, after the first day, that he feels home already. He almost never cries, only if he has to wait to long for his food ;-) and sleeps at least 3, sometimes 5 hours straight. We are already so proud of him and I won't let you wait for long, but will upload some pictures from his birthday until now in a slideshow.

 

GESCHICHTE / HISTORY KOH SAMUI

Die Insel wurde wahrscheinlich zuerst im 15. Jahhundert bewohnt. Die ersten Siedler waren Fischer aus der malaiischen Halbinsel und dem suedlichen China. Samui erscheint erstmals auf chinesischen Karten aus dem Jahr 1687 unter dem Namen Pulo Cornam. Der Name Samui ist geheimnisvoll in sich. Vielleicht ist es eine Erweiterung des Namens eines der einheimischen Baeumen, mui, oder aus der malaiischen Wort Saboey, was bedeutet "sicherer Hafen". Ko ist das Thai-Wort für "Insel". 

Bis zum Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts war Ko Samui eine isolierte Gemeinschaft, mit wenig Verbindung zum Festland von Thailand. Die Insel war ohne Straßen bis in die fruehen 1970er Jahre und die 15 km lange Strecke von einer Seite der Insel auf die andere, konnte eine ganztaegige Wanderung durch den bergigen Dschungel beinhalten. Ko Samui ist in erster Linie eine erfolgreiche Tourismusdestination. Desweiteren werden Kokos und Kautschuk exportiert. Waehrend die Insel ein unberuehrtes Bild präsentiert , hat das Wirtschaftswachstum nicht nur Wohlstand gebracht. Viele Aenderungen in der Insel's Umwelt und Kultur war und ist eine Quelle von Konflikten zwischen Anwohnern und Migranten aus anderen Teilen von Thailand und anderen Laendern. 

The island was probably first inhabited about 15 centuries ago, settled by fishermen from the Malay Peninsula and Southern China. It appears on Chinese maps dating back to 1687, under the name Pulo Cornam. The name Samui is mysterious in itself. Perhaps it is an extension of the name of one of the native trees, mui, or from the Malay word Saboey, meaning "safe haven". Ko is the Thai word for "island". 

Until the late 20th century, Ko Samui was an isolated self-sufficient community, having little connection with the mainland of Thailand. The island was even without roads until the early 1970s, and the 15 km journey from one side of the island to the other could involve a whole-day trek through the mountainous central jungles. Ko Samui is based primarily on a successful tourist industry, as well as exports of coconut and rubber. Whilst the island presents an unspoiled image to the public perception, economic growth has brought not only prosperity, but changes to the island's environment and culture, a source of conflict between local residents and migrants from other parts of Thailand and other countries.

 

STROMAUSFALL / POWER CUTS

Das Leben auf einer tropischen Insel, ob gross oder klein, hat natuerlich Vor- und Nachteile. Seit ich Deutschland verlassen habe, waren Sonnenschein und Regen die einzigen Abwechslungen im Klima. Das ganze Jahr haben wir warme Temperaturen und besonders zur Trockenzeit, kann es mehr als heiss werden. Dazu kommt noch, dass das Stromnetz teilweise noch nicht super ausgebaut und leicht ueberlastet ist und so haben wir oft Stromausfall. Auf Phuket war dies ab und zu der Fall, groesstenteils um Reparaturen durchzufuehren. Auf Samui ist es etwas anders und wir hatten, gerade in den letzten Tagen, so einige Probleme. Momentan werden hier neue Starkstromkabel verlegt, da das momentane Netz total ueberlastet ist. So kommt es leider auch ab und zu vor, dass es den ganzen Tag keinen Strom gibt. Bei Temperaturen um die 36Grad im Schatten ist das ganz schoen bloed, aber es gibt ja Abkuehlung. Ich verstehe mitlerweile, warum fast alle Haeuser in Samui einen Pool haben. Denn dort kann man es dann ja doch gut aushalten ;-) 

Living on a tropical island, small or big, has advantages and disadvantages. Since I left Germany, the only changes in climate were sun or rain. We have warm temperatures all year through and especially during dry season, it gets really hot. On top of that, the electricity coverage isn't as good as it should be and we often have power cuts. During our time in Phuket, that happened sometimes, but mainly for reparations. Here on Samui it is a bit different. At the moment they are fixing new power cables all over the island, as the old system is not strong enough for the demand. Sometimes we don't have power all day long and with temperatures around 36 degrees it is no fun. But now I understand why almost every house on Samui has a pool, because you can cool off and it is bearable in there.

ROCKPOOL BRUNCH

Am Sonntag waren Robert und ich im Karma Resort. Dort gibt es das Restaurant Rockpool und Sonntags ist dort Brunch. Wir hatten uns vorher angemeldet und der Chef persoenlich begruesste uns und wir wurden sehr freundlich willkommen geheissen. In wundervoller Umgebung und atemberaubender Aussicht, haben wir lecker geschlemmt und einen schoenen Nachmittag, mit gutem Essen, verbracht.

We went to the Karma resort last sunday. They have a restaurant, called Rockpool, and the offer sunday brunch. We made reservations in advance and the chef greeted us and we were welcomed very nicely. In a nice environment and breathtaking view, we spent a nice afternoon with good food.
